VENGABOYS

Vengaboys

In 1998, the world was introduced to the joyful sounds of the Vengaboys. Songs such as “Up & Down,” “We Like to Party,” “Boom Boom Boom Boom!,” “We’re Going to Ibiza,” and many more became pop-dance hits with multiple Platinum awards, and the Vengaboys stormed the charts in more than 20 countries, including Germany, the UK, BeNeLux, Spain, South Africa, Thailand, Poland, Australia, and Mexico.

Denice – the “blonde bombshell” of the Vengaboys – recalls:
“The story of the Vengaboys was a pure adventure. We traveled all around the world and felt like we were partying nonstop.”

In 1999, it was America’s turn. “Up & Down” and “We Like to Party” shot to #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts. The debut album “Greatest Hits” achieved Gold status, and the Vengaboys were nominated for the MTV Best Breakthrough of the Year Award.
To promote the single “Kiss (When the Sun Don’t Shine)”, the group organized a world record for the longest kiss, now standing at 29 hours. The Vengaboys also received the TMF Award for Best Dance Act and were honored as Holland’s most successful export of the year.

And the hits kept coming: “Shalala Lala,” “Kiss (When the Sun Don’t Shine),” and “Uncle John from Jamaica” all reached the Top 5 in numerous countries.

The group embarked on a world tour across the USA, Australia, Japan, and South America. After releasing a ballad as a farewell single (band member Kim joked: “Hahaha, a Vengaboys ballad. What were we thinking?”), the Vengaboys announced their retirement — not such a crazy idea after selling 20 million singles and 5 million albums!

But as everyone knows: vacation is great, but after a while, it feels even better to get back to work. 🎉
