MARQUESS

Marquess

¡Fiesta forever! The three musicians of the successful band Marquess carry the sun in their hearts and warm the soul. Their new album, “Sol y Soul,” passionately bridges the gap between Detroit, the birthplace of Motown soul, and fiery Latin rhythms. Marquess have made 12 soul classics their own with their passionate musical interpretation. About half of these songs have been translated into Spanish for the very first time worldwide! The result is cover versions of iconic, timeless soul songs, whose rich melodies evoke memories for everyone. Marquess’ unique ability to make the familiar feel new is a signature of the band.

The Marquess trademark—creating highly danceable music with largely acoustic instruments, whose joy for life is immediately contagious—has been a staple of European pop music for a decade. For ten years, the musicians from Lower Saxony—singer Sascha Pierro, keyboardist Christian Fleps, and guitarist Dominik Decker—have found exciting ways to translate the spirit of Spain into euphoric songs. Initially a quartet and for the past five years a trio, Marquess have never grown tired of seeking new musical inspirations. At no point did the trio have to compromise their style. Their collective musical taste is broad enough to avoid any risk of repetition.

With their new album “Sol y Soul,” Marquess have achieved the feat of sounding familiar yet completely refreshed, perfectly timed for their 10th band anniversary. Classics of soul are brought to life with fiery intensity. The musicians explain:

"For us, every song we cover has to sound like something new before we record it. Combining soul classics with Spanish language and rhythms is not obvious. Making it work seamlessly was a challenge. That’s why we translated some of the original English lyrics into Spanish—not literally, but focusing on the essence of the songs. This allowed us to record the first-ever Spanish versions of several major Motown soul songs, which had never existed before. That makes us especially proud."

“Stop! In The Name Of Love,” the enchanting heartbreak anthem by the Supremes, premieres in Spanish as “Stop! Para por favor” in a lively pop-reggae style, as does “Tranquilo,” the Commodores hit “Easy.” Another Spanish-language novelty is “Loco estoy por ti” (“A Groovy Kind of Love”), in which Sascha Pierro transforms the ballad into a song full of rhythmic vocal finesse. On “Un amor de verdad” (“You Can’t Hurry Love”), Marquess’ new lyrics let the sun shine, musically bridging the Iberian Peninsula and Jamaica in a warm, summery way. With “No me dejes así” (“Don’t Leave Me This Way”), originally a massive disco-soul hit for Thelma Houston in 1977 and later for the Communards in the 80s, the flamenco-pop spirit of the Gipsy Kings is brought into a modern setting. Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called To Say I Love You” receives a rhythmically driven, uplifting reinterpretation as “Solo llamé para decirte que te amo.” With a unique sense for relaxed Latin grooves, Marquess’ new single “All Night Long” (originally by Lionel Richie) energetically ushers in a season that warms both body and soul.

Their love for great pop music and Latin joie de vivre has been proven across six albums, a dozen singles, and countless concerts throughout Europe. Multiple Gold and Platinum awards, #1 hits, two ECHO nominations, and nearly 200 weeks in the German Top 100 charts all underscore the relevance of Marquess’ unique musical vision. Their 2014 album “Favoritas” easily surpassed 100,000 sales to earn Gold status, highlighting the band’s enduring popularity. With “Sol y Soul,” Marquess open a new chapter in their success story, blending Mediterranean rhythm with soul into a deeply uplifting and inspiring musical experience. The sun caresses the soul, and the heart moves the body in the typical yet freshly tuned Marquess feel-good vibe when “Sol y Soul” is played.
